BYO Reseach Sessions are not your usual library workshops.

We want you to bring your assignments so we can help you find the resources you need for the projects you're working on.

Here's how BYO works:

1. Pick the session that matches the stuff you need
2. Show up (All workshops are in SRC 3104 in the Library unless otherwise noted.)
3. Learn what you need to learn
4. Ask questions

Sessions are just one-hour long-- you get 30 minutes of show & tell from an expert librarian and 30 minutes to work on your research and get help from that expert librarian.
Make sure you bring your assignment or have access to your assignment in Blackboard! We can't help you if you don't know what you have to do.

In this session you will learn:

  • the benefits of using the catalog to find materials in the Library
  • how to use effective search strategies to find what you’re looking for
  • how to interpret, locate and retrieve information, whether a book, video, DVD or e-book
  • to recognize the basic elements of a standardized citation format for a book

In this session you will learn:

  • why and how to use periodicals, periodical databases and indexes
  • how to develop and conduct effective search strategies for periodical databases
  • to understand search results and know how to evaluate and locate full-text articles
  • to recognize the basic elements of a standardized citation format for an online periodical article

In this session you will learn:

  • basic Web and Internet concepts
  • how to conduct effective search strategies for search engines
  • to recognize the basic elements of a standardized citation format for a webpage or website
